Thayer Scale’s loss-in-weight feeder systems deliver precise, continuous gravimetric feeding for powders, granules, and bulk solids. Engineered for stability, accuracy, and process control in industrial environments.
Thayer Scale designs loss-in-weight feeder systems for high-precision, continuous gravimetric feeding of bulk solids in demanding industrial environments. These systems are engineered to deliver consistent, repeatable performance across a wide range of feed rates and material types, including powders, granules, flakes, and fragile ingredients.
Each system combines a volumetric feeding mechanism with a rugged, mass-counterbalanced weighing platform or cable scale. This configuration ensures that only the net material weight is measured, eliminating the influence of tare loads, vibration, and structural distortion. Feed rates can range from as low as two grams per minute to over 100,000 pounds per hour, making the system suitable for both micro-dosing and high-capacity operations
Thayer Scale’s feeders incorporate proprietary feed algorithms and advanced instrumentation to optimize performance.
These include:
The system’s software is designed to maintain stable feed rates even during refill cycles, ensuring uninterrupted process control.
Loss-in-weight feeders are available in screw, vibratory, ingredient batching and gravimetric configurations, each tailored to specific material characteristics. Screw feeders feature patented compound flight designs and U-trough chambers that eliminate screw starvation and binding, especially when handling cohesive or aerated powders
Vibratory models, such as the LWF-MC-V, are ideal for fragile or interlocking materials like tobacco fines, vermiculite, and rubber crumb. These feeders can be fitted with Thayer Scale’s Spiralator™ agitator to condition and uniformly deliver difficult materials.
Thayer Scale’s flexure suspension system transfers all loading forces to a single load transducer, ensuring accurate measurement regardless of load position. This design cancels horizontal force vectors and allows heavy tare loads to be fully counterbalanced. The result is a highly stable weighing system with minimal mechanical resonance and exceptional immunity to shock, vibration, and side loading
Additional mechanical benefits include:
Thayer Scale’s feeders are constructed with high-gauge stainless steel and oversized mechanical components to withstand long-term industrial use. Unlike systems that rely on lightweight vessels and minimal structural support, these feeders are built for durability and extended service life.
The system’s modular design allows for easy integration into existing plant layouts and control architectures. Optional accessories are available to address flow challenges such as bridging, flushing, and adhesion.
