The ABB ACL421 ChloroStar digital sensor panel provides high performance, reagent-free chlorine monitoring with EZLink connectivity and integrated sample handling for municipal and industrial water applications.
The ABB ACL421 ChloroStar™ digital sensor panel is a comprehensive solution designed for continuous online chlorine monitoring in municipal and industrial water applications. This all-in-one panel system simplifies commissioning and operation by providing a factory-tested, ready-to-install platform. Whether managing drinking water quality or wastewater effluent, the ACL421 provides the precision and reliability required across Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland & Labrador.
The ChloroStar™ system is engineered to reduce installation time and costs. Each unit features a durable powder-coated steel panel that houses essential measurement components:
ACL420 ChloroStar Digital Sensor: Provides high-performance measurement of free or total chlorine.
AWT420 or AWT424 Transmitter: A universal multi-channel platform that improves measurement confidence and accuracy.
InFlow Multi-Cell (AZA100): Manages sample flow and housing for additional sensors.
The panel includes pre-assembled and pressure-tested tubing, connectors, and valves, ensuring a seamless setup process. With four conveniently located mounting points and soft-edge cable entry points, it keeps the working area clear and organized.
The ChloroStar™ sensor utilizes a three-electrode, membrane-covered amperometric cell. This advanced technology allows for accurate results even in applications susceptible to light fouling, all without the need for additional sample conditioning hardware or expensive chemical reagents.
To ensure stable measurements in varied conditions, the ACL421 offers several key technical features:
pH Compensation: When an additional pH sensor is added, the transmitter uses an internal algorithm to compensate the chlorine reading, ensuring accuracy at higher pH values without using reagents.
Steady-Flow Module: This unique stirrer module agitates the sample around the sensor, allowing for accurate measurements at ultra-low flow rates down to $1~L/h$ ($0.26~galUS/h$).
Pressure Regulation: An optional regulator kit is available for applications exceeding 4 bar (60 psi), extending the operating pressure up to 10 bar (145 psi).
Operational reliability is enhanced through dual-verification capabilities, allowing users to monitor two chlorine sensors against each other to identify measurement drift. For routine verification, the InFlow Multi-Cell includes a grab sample port for quick collection, which can be analyzed on-the-go using the EZTest 100 handheld chlorine calibrator.
Maintenance requirements are straightforward, with electrolyte replacement recommended every 3 months and membrane replacement every 6 months, depending on process conditions. The system is IP66 rated for ingress protection and is compliant with EPA Method 334.0.
Investing in the ACL421 means gaining access to expert technical knowledge and services for process automation. We provide support for initial commissioning, training, and long-term maintenance to ensure your water analysis systems operate at peak efficiency. By combining the latest digital sensor technology with a robust, flexible panel design, the ChloroStar™ ACL421 delivers the precision and reliability your process demands.
